
The CW has found its Batwoman in the gender fluid actor Ruby Rose, according to media reports.
Rose to play Kate Kane a.k.a. Batwoman, the lesbian superhero which will be introduced in the network’s annual DC crossover event this coming winter. But that won’t be the last fans will see if Rose, as the network is currently developing a Batwoman series.
The new series, if picked up, will be the first time an LGBTQ superhero will be the focus of a television show. But it’s still not clear if Kane’s longtime partner, Renee Montoya, who is also a police detective, will be featured in the series.
Rose is best known as Stella Carlin on Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black.” She is also starring in the upcoming shark thriller, “The Meg.”
The upcoming series will be written by Caroline Dries of “The Vampire Diaries.” she will also be executive producing with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns.
