Lionsgate and several television writers rooms have answered the call of the One Vida at a Time Challenge after executive producers for Latino-centered television series “Vida” and “Once Day at a Time” urged creatives to donated to RAICES Texas in support of immigrant family reunification and to stop inhumane practices at the border.

Lionsgate pledged $10,000 June 25 to the non-profit. RAICES, which stands for Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services but also means “roots” in Spanish, has been working to connect immigrant families separated due to the Trump administration’s “zero-tolerance” immigration policy to legal help. The organization is also working to track down the children already separated and sent to detention centers throughout the United States in an effort to reunite them with their parents.

“One Day at a Time and Vida are teaming up to end family separation at the border,” wrote executive producer Gloria Kellett on Twitter.. “In just 6 weeks, upon being detained at the border, 1,995 children have been separated from their families and now a tent city has cropped up in Texas built to detain immigrant children.”

Tanya Saracho, executive producer of Starz’ “Vida” took to her own Instagram account stating,  “We have to do something.”

Since starting the challenge, more than 75 writing rooms from several shows including “Jane the Virgin,” “Star Trek: Discovery,” Hulu’s Emmy winner “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “This Is Us,” “GLOW,” OWN’s “Queen Sugar” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” donated as a result of the challenge.
